20세기 이후로 예술과 문화에서 두드러진 경향 중 하나는 범속한 일상적 대상에 예술작품의 지위가 부여되거나, 일상 자체가 심미화되는 현상이다. 특히 포스트모더니즘 이후 예술과 일상의 경계가 모호해지고 예술과 대중문화, 디자인의 상호작용이 활발해지면서 미학의 경계도 확장되었다. 최근에는 예술작품이 아니라 일상을 대상으로 하는 일상의 미학에 대한 논의가 학계에서 활발하다. 이러한 시대적 추세를 반영해 이 강의에서는 먼저 예술을 중심으로 한 전통적인 미학의 역사와 핵심개념, 한계에 대해서 알아보고 대중문화, 디자인, 건축 등 일상과 가까운 대상들을 포괄하는 일상의 미학의 가능성을 살펴본다.

One clear trend has been evident in art and culture since the 20th century: ordinary objects can be viewed as works of art, and furthermore, everday life itself becomes art. In particular, the scope of aesthetics has expanded with postmodernism owing to the blurred boundary between art and daily life and the active interaction between art, pop art, and design. This course reviews the history and core concepts of conventional aesthetics by reflecting on current trends in art. Moreover, it will examine the possibility that the 'aesthetics of everyday life is firmly extablished, centering on pop culture, design, and architecture.
